Stegga
Drum & Bass / Electroswing
West coast born, east coast built, Justin Looper (seriously, real last name), better known by his moniker Stegga, shows his greatest strengths as an entertainer. Stegga has established himself over the years as an east coast go-to when looking for DJs who are heavy on the live performance side. He has built this name with a specific sound and stage performance that listeners and promoters alike continue to remember and ask for specifically. In the spirit of an entertainer, his clear drive is creating a memorable and interactive experience for a crowd. Besides his obvious and ridiculous energy on stage (bouncing. literal, bouncing.) he draws obvious inspiration from the golden age jockey and scratch innovators. His approach to driving this experience relies on his turntablism and trick mixing for building hype, on his frequent live mashups of throwback classics that create “I can’t believe he’s doing this right now!” moments that draw in a crowd, and of course seamless club-style mixing for keeping that crowd dancing until the house lights come on.
His musical styles vary hugely depending on the crowd, but he’s established his unique style as constant across three main set formats: First the currently-exploding Electro-Swing music. Then Drum n Bass, including both heavy and dancey DnB for the main floor crowds, and deep sexy baby makin’ liquid DnB for the afterhours crew. Then finally his special open-genre remix and live remix sets that end up heavy on the throwback, 100% accessible to anyone with ears and feet that move. His style has earned Stegga many fulfilling experiences playing events with a lengthy list of legends including: Basshunter, Immortal Technique, Charles Feelgood, Aphrodite, Christopher Lawrence, DJ Godfather, X-Dream, Shortee, S3RL, Tristan Garner, Bachelors of Science, Tantrum Desires, Total Science, Evol Intent, Liondub, Bailey, J Rabbit, and Vaski, to name a few. He’s been featured in many of the top nightclubs in cities up and down the east coast, such as Red Maple (MD) Higher Ground, Barre Opera House, (VT) Club (NH) Club Rise, The ADC, Toad’s Place, The Elevens (MA) The Colosseum, Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel, URI (RI) Club Aqua (NY), and countless more, for companies like Tight Crew, The Mutiny, Live Free & Dance, Nexthype, Upstate, DRK, ECR, 4orce, M.A.D.E, Depth Perception, Fractaltribe, Proper, and Beatdown, to list a few. Now diving head-first into the convention scene with Rabbit Revolution, he’s played major convention parties such as Arisia Con, Animeniacs (Anime Boston), and Super Mega Fest. Mixes |
